  1. The cells were cultured for the indicated time in the presence or absence of GM-CSF (20 ng/ml) and the presence or absence of PD98059 (30 μM) or SB203580 (10 μM). The percentage of apoptotic was determined by labeling with FITC-conjugated Annexin-V and cell integrity, by Propidium iodide (PI) staining. The cells were analyzed by cytofluorimetry. Data are shown as the mean ± SD of five 5 independent experiments. Significant differences between young and elderly subjects are indicated by an asterisk (*, p < 0.05 and **, p <0.01).
