The first principal component (PC1; abscissa) explains 39.7% of the variance in gene expression, while PC2 explains 7.7% of the variance. Adult mice are shown as square data; aged mice are represented by circles. Different colors represent different time points post infection. The Euclidean distance between samples reflects their degree of similarity in expression at a global level. Dotted ellipses were manually included to highlight the data structure in the analysis. Early timepoints are highlighted with a black ellipse and later timepoints with a red ellipse
