Table 1 IH device-generated contusion injuries in aged and young rats

From: Characterization of recovery, repair, and inflammatory processes following contusion spinal cord injury in old female rats: is age a limitation?

Weight (g)

Actual force (kd)

Displacement (μm)

Young

190 + 2.70

208 + 1.77

1425 + 72.9

Aged

265 + 3.84*

209 + 1.88

1349 + 71.7

  1. The weight and corresponding biometrics of contusion injuries for the animals used in these studies are shown above. Aged rats weighed significantly more than their younger counterparts (Student’s t test, *p<0.05). However, despite this difference, no statistically significant differences were observed in the actual force and resulting displacement of aged versus young spinal cord tissue (Student’s t test, p >0.05). Mean ± SEM is shown.
